The Building and the Challenge
The client manages a multi-storey government building with an extensive glass and exterior surface area. Three problems shaped the project:
Access. Much of the facade sits beyond the safe reach of boom lifts, and the building's daily operation made scaffolding impractical.
Safety. Suspending cleaning technicians over entrances and pedestrian areas concentrates risk exactly where the public moves.
Disruption. Traditional high-access cleaning would have interrupted the building's normal use for extended periods.
The Configuration We Deployed
The system used in this project paired our high-pressure cleaning payload for DJI M400 and FC100 platforms with a ground-based water and pressure supply:
The drone platform carried the lightweight cleaning spray gun and stayed on station at working height.
Water and pressure came from a ground-based system, so the airframe was never weighed down by its own water load.
Operators controlled the entire cleaning operation from ground level, keeping every crew member away from elevated work areas.
The modular approach mattered: instead of investing in a dedicated cleaning aircraft, the client added a specialized payload to a compatible DJI platform whenever cleaning work was scheduled - and kept the platform available for other missions the rest of the time.
How the Operation Ran
During the application, the drone worked the facade section by section while the ground station fed water and pressure continuously. The crew performed targeted cleaning on glass facades, walls and other elevated surfaces without closing the building, and no personnel left the ground at any point.
