High-Rise Facade Cleaning Drone Systems
Glass curtain walls and high-rise facades define the look of a commercial building - and they show every streak of dust, rain mark and pollution film. Rope-access crews clean them slowly, expensively and with a worker hanging on the facade the whole day. This page explains how drone-based facade cleaning works, what equipment a professional setup uses, and where it already runs in real service businesses.
The Challenge: Facades That Outpace Their Cleaning Budgets
Building owners and cleaning contractors face the same three constraints:
Slow cycles. A rope team descends a fraction of a facade per day; a full high-rise rotation can stretch across weeks.
Cost and risk. Scaffold rental, lift equipment and certified rope workers are expensive - and facade work at height stays one of the highest-risk trades in the industry.
Inconsistent results. Manual pressure and angle vary worker by worker, which shows as streaking on reflective glass.
A facade cleaning drone replaces the rope with a flight path: the machine carries the spray system, the operator stands on the ground, and cleaning quality is set by parameters rather than by arm strength.
Our Solution: The High-Pressure Cleaning Payload for DJI M400 & FC100
WillFly Drone is a direct drone payload manufacturer in Suzhou and a DJI partner since 2016. Our high-pressure cleaning payload for the DJI M400 and FC100 was built specifically for high-rise glass facade cleaning:
One controller, one operator. The smart cleaning APP installs on the DJI remote controller - drone and spray system run from a single screen, no second terminal.
Parameter-based cleaning. Horizontal flight speed, spray gun swing range, swing speed and vertical movement speed are all configurable, and the system executes the pass automatically.
Two cleaning modes. Clean water for routine washes, foam mode for grime that needs dwell time - switched in software.
The airframe is sourced through DJI's channel; we supply the payload, integration and per-project configuration confirmed at quotation.
How a Facade Cleaning Pass Works
Mounting. The payload installs on the aircraft in under 5 minutes - a two-person crew can run several building jobs in a day.
Route setup. The operator configures cleaning parameters in the APP: travel speed, swing range, swing speed and vertical step.
Cleaning pass. The drone flies the facade in overlapping passes; the aluminum spray gun (350 g, 0° direct spray) delivers a stable jet while the system monitors cleaning status through live video.
Automated repetition. Once parameters are dialed in, the system repeats the pattern automatically - the operator supervises instead of hand-flying every meter.
Handover. Streak check against the live feed, then on to the next facade section.
What the Hardware Actually Delivers
From the payload's published specification:
DJI M400 and FC100 compatibility - two proven industrial platforms, matched to building height and mission length.
Smart APP control on the DJI remote controller with real-time video and cleaning status monitoring.
Automated parameter-based cleaning - consistent coverage pass after pass, independent of operator fatigue.
Water and foam cleaning modes for routine and deep cleaning respectively.
Sub-5-minute installation and a 350 g aluminum alloy spray gun built for daily commercial use.
Commercial terms match the rest of our payload line: MOQ of one set, 15-30 days lead time, 12-month warranty, OEM/ODM support for fleet operators.
Where Drone Facade Cleaning Already Works
The service model is running today, not on trial - each scenario links to a detailed article:
Government and commercial buildings. A real deployment with the M400/FC100 cleaning kit is documented in our government building cleaning case study.
Hotels and glass curtain walls. Operational practice on hospitality properties is covered in high-rise hotel drone window cleaning.
Building the service business. How to structure a drone window cleaning business - customers, pricing, equipment - is laid out in the drone window cleaning business guide, with hidden costs examined in part 2 on equipment and hidden costs.
Cleaning chemistry. Which agent to use on which glass condition matters as much as the hardware - see the drone window cleaning agent guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which drones does the system support?
The payload is designed for the DJI M400 and DJI FC100. The M400 suits taller facades and longer endurance missions; the FC100 covers compact urban jobs. Confirm your platform with us at quotation.
Does one operator really run the whole system?
Yes - the cleaning APP runs on the DJI remote controller, so a single operator flies the aircraft, fires the spray and monitors the pass from one screen. A second person helps with ground logistics and water supply.
Can it clean the same way every time?
That is the point of parameter-based cleaning: horizontal speed, swing range, swing speed and vertical step are preset, and the system repeats them automatically - which is what keeps results uniform across a whole facade.
What does a complete setup cost?
It depends on the platform and configuration, so we quote per project. MOQ is one set, lead time 15-30 days after order confirmation, warranty 12 months.
